Terry Maciej

Born in 1939, Terry Maciej is a lifelong resident of Minnesota’s Iron Range. A graduate of Bemidji State University, he spent more than three decades teaching and coaching in Nashwauk and Hibbing, influencing generations of students and young athletes. He and his wife, Carol Ann, raised four children: Carrie, Brian, Amy, and Lynn. For decades, Terry Maciej has drawn creative energy from the rugged pines, cool skies, and abundant wildlife of northern Minnesota. His paintings—rooted in the character of the Iron Range—have found homes in private collections and galleries across the country. Maciej’s career includes national exhibitions; twenty limited edition prints, including three sell-out editions; and illustration work for three published books. His art and outdoor life have been featured in the Hibbing Daily Tribune, Duluth News-Tribune, Northland Outdoors, and Wildlife Art magazines. The Hibbing Daily Tribune recognized him among the “100 individuals who helped shape the communities of the Iron Range.” A committed steward of the natural world he paints, Maciej has long supported conservation organizations through artwork donations, live demonstrations, and active involvement with Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, the National Turkey Federation, National Ruffed Grouse Society—Print of the Year, and Turn in Poachers—where he was named Artist of the Year. His contributions have generated substantial support for wildlife preservation across Minnesota and beyond. Through every brushstroke, Maciej brings forward the beauty, spirit, and stories of the northern landscape he knows so well.
