Historic William Irving Home

William Irving, a tailor by trade, settled in the Mankato area around 1856, just four years after the city was platted. In 1873, he built his retirement home in a newly developed area on the west end of town.

William Irving's family occupied the home until 1964 when they turned it over to a long-time companion of Irving's daughter, Harriet McDonald. In 1990 the home was purchased and renovated into an office facility by Mike Miller of Prudential Realty. In 1999, Miller sold the facility to its current occupant, Lime Valley Advertising Inc.

The historic home was constructed in the French Second Empire style. This is exemplified in the home's full bell-cast mansard roof and diamond shaped cut cedar shingles. The Irving Home features a rock-faced stone foundation and brick wall construction accented by four-over-four double hung windows.

The building site sits on one acre of land and provides Lime Valley Advertising with 16 offices and 3,700 square feet of space. Even as a place of business, the building's home-felt quality permeates. The historic home welcomes the arrival of new technology and provides creative thought a place to grow and thrive.
